Happy February!

This Quilt was started a few years ago.

Finished about a half year later,

and posted 2 years later.

It doesn't help that there is only one time of year to share this quilt.

I love this quilt. I backed it with cream minky.

It is soooo soft and cuddly. Perfect for a cold February.

It took two helpers to hold up my quilt for pictures.

Bloggers Quilt Festival a Scrappy Christmas

I love the Bloggers Quilt Festival! Such a fun thing that Amy does. (Thank You!)

I have participated each time (except this spring when life got really busy).

I always like to share a newly finished quilt. This time the festival was all the motivation I needed to get this quilt finished. I joined a christmas block swap back in the summer of 2009. I put all the swap blocks together with a few extra of mine a year ago. And I quilted and did the binding the last two nights, just in the nick of time to join the festival. phew! So this quilt was 3 years in the making. And its HUGE; 70 X 95.

Some of you might even recognize your Christmas blocks. (if you exchanged with me). Thanks! I love this quilt. And so does my husband who prefers quilts that can cover his shoulders and toes.

I got my inspiration of how to quilt this quilt when one of my friends "pinned" this quilt.

Diagonal lines mixed with some horizontal lines.

Perfect for a log cabin quilt.

This quilted up pretty fast, with all those lines.

I backed the quilt with a Christmas minky fabric, so it will be extra warm for those Cold December days.

And I binded with some Mary Engelbreit Christmas fabric from a few years ago.

I got these scraps of strawberry shortcakes from my moms fabric stash.

My Grandma made me a blanket with the same fabric when I was little.

I fussy cut the strawberry shortcakes, and framed each one.

I love this quilt.

I backed it with a fun yellow.

(to break up all the pink a bit)

and the most appliqueing I have done on a quilt.

Last year I joined a Christmas block swap.

And this year, I got the top all made. These are all the blocks I got, plus a few extra of the ones I made. I was going to make two different quilts, but then decided just to make one BiG on instead. Big it is.

I like how all the blocks mesh together well. I am excited to have this on my bed during the holidays.

maybe by next Christmas I will have it quilted.

Christmas Table Runner

This is the first table runner I have made for myself.

And the first table runner that I have not done free motion quilting on.

I was lucky enough to get the charm pack (Basic Grey; figgy pudding) for $5 at a quilt fair this summer. I actually wanted two charm packs so I could make a cute lap quilt. But they only had one, so a table runner was a must. And I have really enjoyed having this on my table.

I will have to make some more for myself ;)

When I saw this cute idea here, I knew I had to make them for preschool treats, I am putting them in a cellophane sack with a cute ribbon and sending them for the Christmas party! this was my first chocolate dipping/melting treat I have made all on my own. I want a chocolate fountain for the next time I make something like this!!

Back in the day (spring 2009), of when I discovered quilting, online fabric shopping, and quilting blogs, I came across the very talented Kerri of lovelylittlehandmades. I saw one of her quilts, and fell in LOVE with it, and became inspired. The color scheme was perfect, and the pattern was perfect. She was soo kind and gracious with sharing her talents so that I could make an adorable quilt just like the one she made. I finished the top back in the spring of 2009, and finally got it quilted this summer.

And I absolutely love it.

I did the backing with a lakehouse gingham print.

Gobble til You Wobble

I got together with a few friends to make these fun turkey pillows.

We were inspired by Allison from Cluck Cluck Sew, my fall pillow, and lots of different turkey images via google images. We split the costs of supplies so each pillow was a little over $3!

I love the colors, and love the quilting, and love the pieced backing.

My amazing friend made it for my new (2.5mo) baby girl.

I can never take some pictures of my little girl with out her big brother wanting in on the action too.

Really, it is pretty sweet to have friends that quilt.

I love to participate in the Bloggers Quilt Festival. Such a cool idea, and great opportunity to share, and to be inspired by others. This time around, I am going to pick one of my favorite quilts, for the story behind the quilt. (seems like all the quilts I make, become a favorite)

Right before I was going to get married, my mom and I visited the lqs. We were looking for fabrics to make me a quilt; a wedding quilt/present. We had help from the store manager picking out coordinating fabrics. This was before I knew anything about quilting. I was marrying someone who was in the service, so I thought it would be kinda fun to have a star/patriotic quilt. Before a wedding, is a busy busy time. This start quilt never got made. Fast forward 4 years later. I now know some things about quilting, and had made a few quilts. I was at my moms for the summer, and I found the stash of fabric that we bought for this quilt. I enlisted her help to finish the star quilt. It was going to be really big, so we decided to pick out a few more colors, and make two quilts. One for her, and one for me. We got the tops all made. I finished her quilt just in time for a quilt contest, over at piece n quilt, and I finished my quilt about a year later. On my quilt, I tried to do a smaller stippling then usual for me. And I did a fun zigzag around the blue border, to coordinate with the star points. This quilt is a big one. It quilted up pretty fast for me. And I love it.

Table Runner. I have made lots of these, and sadly I dont own any.

One day I will get one made for me.

This one I helped (gave instructions and encouragement) my mom make.

This was maybe her 2nd time really quilting.

I think it turned out pretty darn good.

Halloween Pillow Cases

I'm still getting the hang of making pillow cases, soon I will have the dimensions figured out.

I started this quilt in the spring of 2009, and finished it just over a year later.

Its got a loooong story to go with it.

This fabric is ALL from Joannes. (I cant believe I didnt know about online fabric shopping before)

I had an idea of doing a boy(ish) quilt for my little guy.

That didnt work out so well.

I had an idea of what I wanted this quilt to look like.

(a pattern I thought I could just figure out how to make myself)

The quilt didnt turn out anything like the pattern that inspired me.

This quilt is huge! (64x84) I didnt want to waste any fabric.

And surprisingly it wasnt too bad to quilt.

And I think its one of my favorites.

Pinkalicious Party

We had the birthday party today, and it was magical! 15 adorable little girls, and 5 adults! Pinkalicious is one of our favorite books. I got the girls a tutu and wand from Halo Heaven, and then used die cuts to cut out the star on glitter paper and hot glued it to the wand, so they could be just like Pinkalicious!

We had cupcakes ordered just like the cupcakes from Pinkalicious!
For lunch we served pink punch, star shaped sandwiches with strawberry cream cheese in the middle, pink rice crispy bites, celery, grapes, strawberries, raspberries, strawberry jello, circus cookies and pink whoppers! I got the pinkalicious stickers on the cups from Big Day Creations
I loved decorating for this party, I made the tissue pom poms following this tuturioal

When the girls first came they signed their name on the inside cover of a new Pinkalicious book for my little girl, then they got their wand and tutu and we danced to Pinkalicious the musical music. After dancing we had printed coloring pages from the pinkalicious publishers website and gave the girls each a pink, purple and dark pink crayon, (pinkalicious loves to paint)

then we read the pinkalicious book, ate lunch, read Goldielicious (one of the sequels), played I have a little "Goldie" (goldie is pinkaliciouses imaginary pet unicorn), ate cupcakes and opened presents and then danced again!

The middle tissue ball is one like this: I love the arch decorated pink on my porch! (and a look at our staircase progress...)

and the pink treat bag I made, I got the plain white bags at walmart, hot glued a little hot pink tulle to the inside, and a flower on the outside:

Birthday banner

I had lots of fun this weekend making my first banner, I love how it came together. I even impressed my sister (an expert scrapbooker) asked me if it came from a kit!

I went to a scrapbook store and bought pink paper from all over the store, and used their die-cut machine to get my letters and the scalloped circles and squares and smooth circle.

I also got some coordinating embellishments and ribbon from the clearance jar.

I also added strips of hot pink tulle in with every other ribbon section

I used a hole punch and tied the ribbons in a knot between the two letters and just a little ribbon loop on the ends to hold the banner up

What I won at the service auctionMy church is having a Service Auction tonight, here are the bows and bow organizer I made for my service: *this was one of the higher bids along with a quilt, hand sewn bags, oil change, studio recording of one song, dinner delivered to you door we bid on services for over an hour! it was a lot of fun! next year I will take my camera and get pictures of what the ladies make!

I am really a beginner sewer.

So when it came to making some jammies for my little guy,

I had to enlist some help from my mom.

Good thing I did, because we ended up with

some super cute pajamas with matching shirts,

that my little guy LOVES.

And I'm attempting to finish this beastly quilt.

This quilt was started in my very beginning days of quilting....

Wish me luck for this one, because with every stitch I wonder why

I hadn't scrapped the quilt already.

Ocean Breeze Spray Paint

I saw this blog post and loved loved loved her lamp. Inspired, on Thursday I picked up three lamps at the thrift store, and the spray paint at the craft store. (the lamps were 4$ each!) and tried my luck. I have limited experience with spray paint and these lamps have taught me lots about patience and using spray paint.

a before with primer:
this was my favorite lamp, however, my paint job was not perfect enough for me, (I sprayed to much to close to fast, sanded too soon, the lamp was to hot or something and the paint crackled, tried to sand down the edges and put too much paint on. (This was my stress of the weekend.) easy come easy go....
I didnt get any other before pictures, but here are my afters:

at least I can almost laugh about it now. and here is the keeper:I love this lamp, and I can say the next time I am at the thrift store, I will check out the lamp section and try again. At 4$ you just cant loose!!

Sugar and Spice

Baby #2 is on its way...

Hopefully I can get into gear these last few months,

(since the first half I didn't even touch my sewing machine)

and not only continue to work on my fabric stash/in progress quilts,

but get some girly/baby sewing done.

This fabric I found while helping my mom go through some boxes of her fabric.

I had a blanket/quilt made out of this fabric when I was a little girl.

The front of the blanket was this fabric panel,

it was a tied quilt, with pink pea-cos all around.

and I think I might still have it...

But I want to make something for the little one with this fabric,

I'm just not sure what, or even how?

Cut up the squares, leave them, quilt all over, stitch in the ditch?

Happy Memorial Day!

and thank you to all who have served,

and those who are currently serving and their families.

My heart goes out to them.

[What a perfect day to post this quilt]

This quilt top was also completed last summer,

and had been waiting, and waiting for me to finish it.

The size of this thing, didn't help with finding motivation.

I think this is by far the largest quilt I have quilted/made.

It measures 78 X 96.

I made this quilts sister about a year ago. (you can read about it here).

My mom helped me piece these quilts.

The original quilt was going to be pretty big as well.

So we made a few extra star blocks, then divided them up.

(taking turns, because you know there

were some blocks that were not so popular)

and we made two quilts.

(so I guess mother/daughter quilts are more fitting than sister quilts).

Since then my mom has taken over the first one made.

And this one is mine.

I did a small stipple again outside of the stars and on the outer border.

I outlined each star so it would pop more.

And I zigzagged the inner border to compliment the stars points.

And I think it turned out pretty cute.

The backing fabric was also purchased when the rest of the fabric was.

Good thing its a small check print, because I had quite a few puckers.

And you cant really tell with a busy fabric.

Basting this huge quilt was a beast!

I'm glad I have another quilt done that has been waiting....

Having finished quilts to enjoy is much better then just the tops waiting.

Bloggers Quilt Festival

Thanks Amy once again for hosting the Bloggers Quilt Festival.

(such a fun idea, and a great place for inspiration)

I am thrilled to be apart of it.

I have participated in the past Quilt Festivals,

but this time I hadnt finished a quilt that I loved since the last festival.

(just enough motivation to finish an "in process project")

So I got to work....

I pieced the top of this quilt last summer. And it has been waiting since then to be quilted.

This is the first time I had ever pieced hexagons (lots of seams).

The pattern is Wee Spin by American Jane.

It definitely isnt perfect, but I love it any way.

I love this quilt because I love the American Jane Fabrics.

This quilt took a lot of time...

The pattern probably has been the most time intensive that I have done.

Simple, but lots of work.

Finally Completed

I really wanted to put a quilt into the Bloggers Quilt Festival.

The first Quilt Festival started just shortly after
I had finished my very first quilts.

I have participated each time they have had the festival.

I love the festival, soo much inspiration all in one place.

This time around, I just didnt have a quilt that

I had finished recently that "I really looooved".

This was the motivation that I needed....

The Story of this quilt:

This quilt started out with two jelly rolls;

The pattern is the American Jane pattern; Wee Spin.

This quilt top took a lot of time, energy, and patience with points.

Here is the top which was completed last summer.

(I love the stained glass look with the sun shining through)

And then the quilt top sat, and sat, and sat.

Until now... This last week I finished this quilt just for the Quilt Festival.

Here is the quilt all quilted.

There were tons of seams, which made the quilting a little tricky.

I quilted it in a small stipple pattern.

Small enough for lots of crinkle goodness.

Here is the quilt bound, and washed;

I had a real hard time finding the 'right' binding.

I was leaning towards red, but ended up with orange, and wishing it was red.

Hopefully the orange will grow on me.

The backing is also an American Jane fabric.

Look closely, and you can see the hexagons peeking through.

and the perfect picture for some crinkly goodness.

I am soo glad this quilt is completed so I can enjoy it!
Finished size is 56X78
hexagons are 8"X7"
inside hexagons are 4"X3.75"

Scraps for Coins

This coin quilt, is from the scraps of my Hexagon quilt

(that is STILL waiting to be quilted).

This quilt came together pretty quickly. (dont all coin quilts?)

The prints are a mixture of Wee Play and Recess by Moda.

Which I looooove.

The quilt measures 36x54

I love this panel, and as soon as I saw it I knew it would be perfect for the backing of this quilt.

The panel is an American Jane print.

Better Late than Never

I've been behind on my quilting,

and have been in a sewing slump.

But, I finally got my Grandma's spring table runners done.

I used one charm pack of the portugal,

and a few extra fabrics from that line

to even out my squares for both runners.

The table runners are made up of disappearing nine patch squares.

Hopefully I will have some more quilting to post soon...

I am loving white right now. Are you? I dug deep into my closet and got out my chenille bedspread (I know, you will die, it came from a goodwill store in 2003 for 6$!!). I put it on my bed, and something was missing. pillow shams.

Over the weekend I went and got some white chenille fabric from Joann's to make two pillow shams with to complete the look, and the pillow in the middle was a gift my mom brought me back from San Francisco eight or so years ago. I LOVE how complete it turned out.

favorite winter blanket

Now that spring is approaching, I finally found an adorable print for my little guys winter blanket. I put a layer of white flannel in the middle of the trucks print, and the brown minky. I love how soft, cozy and warm this blanket it is. I know that these fabrics will hold up through many years of wear and tear. I made the blanket a bit larger then I actually wanted, but now it will still fit my little guy in a few years. I would love to make more things with this adorable fabric. I think it would be cute on a back of a quilt, a crib sheet, a sheet blanket, a changing pad cover... anything, its adorable!

I've hit a sewing slump.... Dont get me wrong, I have tons of inspiration, and tons of projects knocking at my door. I think the Olympic watching is what got me. It consumed my nights (my sewing time) for a few weeks, and I just cant get back into the swing of things. Hopefully it wont be too long before I get something going, and more blog posts will be rolling in.

Girly Sewing

As a baby gift,

I did some "regular" sewing,

and made some crib sheets for them.

I would loove to claim this quilt as my own.

for a few reasons;

a. the fun bright colors

b. the simple white border, and pink binding

c. it was HAND QUILTED

But I cannot claim this quilt because it was made by my sweet friend Jamie.

And the lucky recipient was her sister.

I think hand quilting really adds some timeless charm to quilts.

I only wish I had the patience, to hand quilt.

I just love her quilt, and wanted to share it with all of you!

More Fabric...

Im not doing soo good with the "scrap busting",

because I keep adding more beauties to the stash.

I've been looking for a solid red for the border of my

Valentines quilt, ever since I finished the top. Well, none of

my lqs had any, so I went online...

Looking for solid red, and look what else I found;

Some fat quarters of Sandi Hendersons; Meadowsweet line.

I've been eyeing these for awhile. And what made things worse,

is that I found a cute (very reasonable) etsy shop, that carried both of these items.

And had the lowest prices I had seen for the fat quarter set.

It was pretty hard to say no, to a great price.

Lori, the girl who runs this etsy shop, was sooo wonderful to work with.

I got my fabric in a few days (fast shipping) and bless her heart,

she fit ALL this fabric (8 1/4 yards) in one flat rate envelope!!!

Can you believe that! Amazing!

Im thinking that im going to have to make me a quilt out of these pretties.

Maybe a turning twenty?

Yes, this is new fabric, added to my stash.

Here is the Story;

The top fabric, (the golden books animals) is

going to a backing fabric for a soon to be done quilt.

The green print, is also going to be a backing for my eye spy quilt.

Baby Quilt

Baby quilt for my SIL complete.

I think they are adorable.

I love the stained glass affect, you can see through the quilt.

And with some of the left-over scraps, I made this

warm and comfy strip quilt, with minky on the back.

I really love how the binding turned out. First time having a "scrappy" binding,

and third attempt to making the binding with slanted edges

(rather then straight)when sewing each end together. Thanks to this binding tutorial.

and with some of the mini scraps, I made this card.

I think it goes great, especially with a sewing project gift.

I've been in an on-going process of helping my mom go through her sewing room.

We found this fabric. (i think all) of the blocks are sewn up, in a few different patterns.

We are not sure what the pattern is suppose to look like.

There is also come extra yardage of the blue fabric, and the snowman fabric.

Valentine Runners

Hopefully you already guessed what the valentine fabric was for.

Table runners for my Grandma. (and my mom made one)

I have 2 (off season/holiday), and 1 (patriotic) table runner to go,

then she will be all stocked up, and her front room will have

some quilted beauty in it all year round.

I did loopty loops for the fabric from last year.

And This year fabric, I quilted hearts into each square, with loopty loos in between.

and here are the scalloped edge pretties.

(the wind was blowing so I lost a few scallops towards the bottom.)

And here is what they look like on His and Her (Grandpa and Grandma) chairs;

Tricks of the Trade

This, my sewing friends is a cool thing. If you already knew this, you get extra credit points for the day! (hooray for you!) And if you didnt, you can get extra credit points next time you sew for using this trick.

The story; My mom, found this idea somewhere in blog land. (sorry I dont have the source). She didnt bookmark the idea, because it was soo easy to remember. Feel freely to pass this idea along on your blogs as well, because it is a HUGE time savor. And we all need more time to sew.

The Tip; When you are piecing together rows or blocks, number them, by writing on flower head pins.

This keeps your rows from automatically switching during the sewing process,

it keeps you more organized, and you dont have to think as much.

Here are some pictures to illustrate.

I like to number the top, and one side. The end result will kind of look like a grid.

The top corner, and side corner will have the same number, and continue on from there.

(make sense.) Hopefully this will save some of you some time!

Raggedy Strips

I had this fabric back in October. And had plans and a deadline.

(my little guys bday)

well the plans were great, but I didnt end up finishing it by his birthday.

And I didnt think it would be as big as it ended up being.

(didnt want to waste fabric!)

I kind followed Cotton Ways pattern; Bundle Up Baby Girl.

My version is a bit bigger. I bought a few inches of each of these fabrics.

Then I made some a litte bit smaller, laid the strips out, reversed quilted, and it was done!

I have brown minky on the back. (first time using minky) and I looove how warm and cozy it is.

The width of the quilt is about 44" and the length is about 63".

(perfect size for my legs!)

I did have some problems.... When I was sewing on the ric rac, I sprayed the area with spray baste, laid the ric rac down quilted, no problems. After it sat for awhile, there was this ewy gewy fuzz from the spray baste that was left on the un-ric racked areas. I thought it would come out with a good wash. I was wrong. Now it has been dried, and still looks like this; Any ideas of how to get this off??? how do you sew your ric rac on?

Baby Quilt

One of my sister-in-laws, just adopted their first baby (boy) in December. Her nursery colors are avocado green, aqua, orange, and brown. She picked out these fabrics, and I am going to make her a crib quilt to match her nursery. I sent her a bunch of quilt pictures/links to quilts I adore, and she picked out a few she liked, but the rest will be a surprise. Stay tuned.

Valentines

The beginning of January I went to Joannes, saw this cute vintage Alexander Henry valentines print. I looked, and adored, and went about my merry way. A few weeks later I went back to Joannes, after still thinking about this fabric, and they didnt have any. I called the other local Joannes, and they said a woman came in and bought the whole bolt! (she must be selling it somewhere and making some money.) About a week later I went back to Joannes, and saw that they had some in. So I had to get me some. (stash building) And if I didnt get some fabric to go with it, then it would probably sit in my stash. Im hoping this is not the case, and I will have a cute valentines quilt to enjoy next month.

Baby Squares

I made these a few months ago, but never washed them. So I washed them and got them wrapped and ready for christmas.

In my family the cousins (my kids/siblings kids) draw names. My little guy had one of my sisters girls. This sister, bless her heart has a little/small fabric stash. This fabric; Simplicity by Moda was apart of that stash. So I made her fabric into a (big) girl quilt. this would fit good on a twin size bed. and with the scraps, I made a little quilt/doll quilt to go with it.

This quilt took forever, to piece together. If I wouldve been smart, I wouldve done some strip quilting, then my cutting. But I do looooove the look of these squares, and I looove the fabric. First time quilt with no border. And loopty loop quilting. (love it).

Christmas Twins

Yes, more table runners... For my grandmas chairs. One for her recliner, and the other for my grandpas. Oh how she looooves these table runners. Hopefully I will have her stocked for each holiday, and one for the "off-seasons". And then...one day my house will be stocked with these lovelies.

I followed the same pattern/scallops as my gobble gobble table runner from moda bake shop.

And once again the corners on the scallops didnt work so well, and took an eXtra long time. Love the look, but I'm not sure I can do these cute small happy scallps again.

I stitched both of these table runners with loopidy loops. It felt, and looked more christmas(y).

and here is the twin. same fabric; Crazy Eight by Moda.

Even though its the same fabric, its a totally different feel.

And I ditched the small happy scallops for larger scallops. Much less time consuming, and feasible corners. I may just repeat these scallops. I think it adds sooo much to the table runners.

New year, New blog, and New goals....

I have collected quite the stash of fabric for only quilting for about 10months! And there is always new cute fabric at the quilt shops. I am living close to some pretty fun shops, with lots and lots of adorable fabric that is really hard to say no to.

So, Ive got 7months to minimize my stash, to scraps.

and hopefully I wont be adding to my fabric stash.

Painted armoire

I had an oak armoire (sorry no before pictures), from my husbands grandma. and I was inspired. I started painting mine in august and was finished in september! I am still working on the right arrangement of sticks and vase one the side. any ideas?

Circles and Squares

or as my mom likes to call it; color blind (test) quilt.
Here it is...

I finished it awhile ago,
but got busy with other things
rather then taking pictures of the finished product.

I put a strip of the scraps on the back.

I quilted around the circles,

and on the outside of the ric rac.

You can really see the effect of this

on the back of the quilt.

This was a fun quilt to put together, and quilt.

Just might have to do a repeat.

Gobble Gobble Table Runner

I just looooove this table runner.

I followed this pattern from Moda Bake Shop. Every quilt, I am liking my stippling even more. I especially love the scalloped edges on this table runner, but that was not the case, when I was sewing on the binding!!! Anyone know tips on scalloped binding?

This is one of the four quilts.
I finished one other; just waiting to bind it.
Two of the other table runners I realized after I was done quilting them, that my tensions were off, and bad news! So I spent more time unpicking one of them, then I did actually quilting it. So those got put aside for awhile.

kerneless Caramel Popcorn

I love caramel popcorn, but hate kernels! If you feel the same about caramel popcorn as I do, then you must try this recipe. It is a favorite of mine! Caramel Popcorn
8oz pop corn (you can use; cheetos puffcorn, pirate booty, pops (chip isle))
1/2c. butter
1/2c. corn syrup
1c. brown sugar
1tsp. baking soda

bring butter, syrup and sugar to a small boil. Then add baking soda while stirring. Once the caramel becomes froathy/bubbly stir a few more times, then pour over pop corn. Let cool before sampling.

I am really excited, my stippling is looking pretty good.
I made this quilt with the scraps from the bigger one.

Here is the new stitch pattern that I tried. It was really fun. Definitely doing it again.

I finished my disappearing nine patch blocks... 100 of them! There are a bunch that are my favorite...
Each of these is going to be going to a good home...
Hopefully a home where they are adored just as much as I adore them.

I layed out all my blocks on a white sheet,

to see what they would look like as a quilt (with sashing).

Another Pumpkins Gone Crazy Quilt

This one was made by my sister Erica, who posts on this blog occasionally (but im posting this one for her). I looove it! It was made from a Pumpkins Gone Wild Layer cake that was purchased last year! Somehow I motivated her to get this quilt done, just in time to enjoy it this fall. (dont you loove the legs popping out of the bottom of the quilt!) She got it quilted for just $40! This quilt is huge, and $40 what a bargain! and I loooooooove how the ric rac pops out and borders the quilt! I think I am going to have to try this technique on one of my quilts.

and of course love the back as well. Its like another quilt; a stripe quilt of course.
